St. John the Baptist may have top billing inside the Basilica, but on the doorstep it is St. Francis that guards the entrance. He is an imposing figure of 8 feet; to get eye-to-eye with him I had to put my camera at the end of a pole.
While taking the picture early one morning a lady came by – she remarked on how the statue appears friendly during the day but intimidating at night.
