The wind was howling
out of the north, off the water. It was a winter of ice storms, it was like
a sheet of glass all over the parking lot and also around the lighthouse. I
had to use my ice pick to navigate over the wind hammered hills. What surprised
me was how many people were still out there that day. The weather was brutal
but the ocean was fabulous.
While taking shelter on the lee side I took this shot looking towards Signal
Hill. I like the lines and the blackness of the window. One reason the window
is so black is because it is not a window at all, but rather black painted board
incorporated into the original design from 1836. It adds symmetry to the look
of the lighthouse.
